As the highlight of the annual GFFT symposium, the winners of the German Startup Cup in the categories Cybersecurity and AI & Software are determined and honored.
The symposium focuses on identifying innovation potential in the areas of cybersecurity as well as AI and software technologies. With top-class panel discussions and inspiring keynotes, we offer a platform to discuss the latest trends and developments in these key areas. In addition, numerous exhibitors and innovative startups will present groundbreaking technologies and solutions at stands.
The insights and impulses gained from the symposium will then be bundled in a public call to strengthen the industrial location. As a community initiative, we will face these challenges and actively contribute to the further development of the German economy. We warmly invite you to join us in driving digitalization forward and discussing the essential role of IT.

Discover the expertise of the Startup Cup Executive Committee and get to know the distinguished personalities who drive this competition forward. Meet experienced leaders, innovative thinkers and creative minds who are shaping the future together.
- Professor Dr. Walther Ch. Zimmerli is a distinguished academic with extensive experience in philosophy and academia. He earned his doctorate and habilitation in philosophy from the Universities of Göttingen and Zurich, respectively.
- Throughout his career, he has held prestigious positions at various universities, including TU Braunschweig, University of Bamberg, University of Marburg, and Brandenburg University of Technology Cottbus. Additionally, he has served in leadership roles at institutions such as Private Universität Witten Herdecke gGmbH and Volkswagen AG.
- Zimmerli’s contributions extend beyond academia; he is also involved in initiatives such as the GFFT and is the founding president of the German Startup Cup.

- As former Director of the Fraunhofer Institute for Industrial Engineering (IAO) and, above all, as President of the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft from 2002-2012, Professor Dr. Hans-Jörg Bullinger has done more than almost anyone else to promote innovation in Germany.
- Bullinger obtained his doctorate in 1974 and habilitated at the Institute for Industrial Production and Factory Management in 1978.
- From 1975, he was head of corporate planning at the Fraunhofer Institute for Manufacturing Engineering and Automation (IPA). In 1980, he became a professor at the University of Hagen and received an honorary doctorate from the University of Belgrade in 1991.
- As co-founder, he headed the Fraunhofer Institute for Industrial Engineering (IAO) and the Institute for Industrial Engineering and Technology Management (IAT) at the University of Stuttgart from 1981 to 2002.
Prof. Dr. Hans-Jörg Bullinger, Former President of the Fraunhofer Gesellschaft
- Professor Dr. Antonio Krüger is CEO and Scientific Director of the German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence GmbH (DFKI) and heads the „Cognitive Assistants“ department at DFKI.
- A full professor of computer science at Saarland University since 2009, he is also head of the Ubiquitous Media Technology Lab and scientific director of the Innovative Retail Laboratory (IRL) at DFKI.
- As an internationally recognized expert in human-machine interaction and artificial intelligence, Krüger founded the Media Informatics study program at Saarland University in 2010 and is still its director today.
- Prior to his current positions, he was Professor of Computer Science and Geoinformatics at the University of Münster from 2004 to 2009 and served as Managing Director of the Institute for Geoinformatics.

Review 2023
In autumn 2022, numerous startups started the new season of the German Startup Cup to pitch for winning the cup. The 2023 live final took place in Mannheim in partnership with PHOENIX group, where the trophy was awarded in front of industry representatives from industry and science as well as an expert jury as part of a symposium.
